Garnett’s Last Stand

Kevin Garnett is playing like a man possessed in the 2012 NBA Playoffs. At age 35, KG is still scoring, grabbing key rebounds and playing ferocious D in the paint. Boston basketball fans are familiar Kevin Garnett’s storied spirit and drive, but the future Hall of Famer looks especially fired up in what could potentially be his final season. So vicious has been KG’s postseason play that Atlanta Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. called Garnett the “dirtiest guy in the league“. While Celtics fans would prefer words like “gritty” or “tough” to describe Garnett’s playing style, everyone can agree that number 5 is going extra hard this season. KG is in the final year of his contract so this could very well be his last hurrah. With the future of the Big 3 shrouded in uncertainty, 2012 is probably KG’s final legitimate shot at more silverware, so he will be running in high gear. And don’t expect KG to apologize to the Atlanta Hawks – or anyone else who tries to get in Garnett’s way.

Ray Ray’s Tre’s Help C’s Get To .500

Ray Allen went 3-3 from beyond the arc in the 4th qurater (6-7 on the night) to lead the Celtics past the winless Wizards 100-92 on Monday Night. The Celtics are now 3-3 on the year after an 0-3 start that had many Boston fans in panic mode.

SNL Skit Predicts Tough Time For Tebow Against Patriots

In this hilarious SNL skit, Jesus visits the Denver Broncos Locker room after Tebow’s latest comeback win. Jesus explains that he is too busy to keep helping Tebow, but suggests that Timmy should be just fine in his next game… until Jesus finds out that Tebow has to play the Patriots. You’ll be sure to have a laugh at this one. Note: this is not our video & looks like it may be bootlegged so do not be surprised if it is removed from YouTube eventually

After yesterday’s game it looks like Jesus was right…Tebow would have needed a LOT of luck to beat Belichick, Brady & Co. But the better team prevailed. Go Pats!

Jeff Green Out For Season

Last year, Danny Ainge baffled Celtics fans when he traded Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder in order to bring Jeff Green back to Boston. The Celtics chemistry was ruined and their lack of a big body in the middle made them no match for Miami as they were bounced in the second round of the playoffs. Jeff Green was mediocre at best, and the deal was dubbed one of the worst in team history by most Celtics supporters.

This season, many were hopeful that Green would have a breakout season and provide some justification for the move. But a rare heart condition will end Jeff Green’s season before it begins, as he will have surgery to fix an aortic aneurysm. Supposedly the surgery should make Green fully functional again and after his rehab is completed he will be able to return to the NBA next year. Hopefully that is the case, but this is a big blow to a Celtics squad who is trying to make one last run at a Championship with aging stars Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce leading the team. It really is a shame, but all Celtics fans can do is send their best wishes Green’s way and hope he makes a full recovery.

Theo Deal Finalized. Lackey Gone Too?

The Red Sox and Cubs have supposedly agreed to terms on a deal to send Boston GM Theo Epstein to Chicago after weeks of speculation and rumor. Reports say the Red Sox initially targeted Matt Garza and attempted to ship John lackey to Chi-Town too, but now it seems they will have to settle for far less. The deal allegedly includes Minor League Prospects and cash. Plus, Epstein may take a high ranking member of the Sox front office with him. It’s a shame the Red Sox couldn’t cash in on this deal and solve their biggest problems all at once: getting rid of John Lackey…and finding someone to fill his spot in the rotation. Although it didn’t work out perfectly for Boston, the organization is still making much needed progress.

Mouth breathing villain John Lackey may be headed to San Diego. Rumors indicate the Padres would make a trade for him as long as the Red Sox eat most of his contract. If they can find a compromise that dumps an acceptable amount of Lackey’s money on the Padres’ shoulders, and we get some fresh prospects from Chicago to fill our thinning Minor League system, that would be a pretty solid start to the off-season. The World Series just began, so assumed new GM Ben Cherington will have plenty of time to find another pitcher.

Specific details of the Epstein deal should be released later today, so we will have them as soon as that information comes out. Let’s pray that we also have a deal for Lackey to report sometime soon.

Yankees Fall Behind 2-1 in Series, Face Elimination Tonight!

Justin Verlander out dueled CC Sabathia on Monday night, going 8 strong innings while the Yankee Ace was unable to make it out of the 5th.

The Tigers edged the Yanks 5-4, as Verlander’s gritty performance proved to be just good enough for a Detroit win. Verlander racked up 11 K’s and showed the world why he deserves the AL Cy Young.

Jose Valverde came in to close and struck out Derek Jeter to seal the deal in the 9th. Watching Comerica Park erupt with cheers as Jeter whiffed to end the game was so beautiful I almost cried. Detroit now has a 2-1 lead in the series. AJ Burnett faces 22 year old Rick Porcello tonight at Comerica Park, once again at 8:37 ET on TBS. The Tigers can eliminate the Yanks with a win, which would give the distraught Red Sox Nation something to smile about.

ESPN Puts Theo At 50/50

Before the Boston Red Sox can advance too deeply in their managerial search, there is another order of business that the club must address with some urgency in the coming days.

Namely, what they plan to do in the event another club comes calling for general manager Theo Epstein, especially since, according to one major league source close to Epstein, it’s “50-50″ the GM would leave for the right situation.- ESPN

Red Sox Begin Home Series Against Rays With Double Header

The Red Sox will take on Tampa Bay 3 times in the next two days, beginning with a double-header today.  Jon Lester takes the mound for the first game at 1:05, then Erik Bedard will get the start for the Night Game.

The Sox look to rebound from a sub-par weekend in Seattle.  Boston dropped 2 out of 3 against the lowly Mariners.  It was a disappointing series after the Red Sox had beat up on the Yankees and Twins last week.

A little taste of some Dirty Watah may be just what the Red Sox need to get back on track.

The Sox hit the road again on Thursday for back-to-back 4-Game series with the Royals and Rangers.
