It’s Rondo Time!

Rajon Rondo recorded a triple double (32 pts 15 asst 10 rbs) against the top ranked Chicago Bulls on Sunday, leading the Celtics to a 95-91 victory. It’s officially Rondo time in Boston. The Celtics energetic point guard is starting to assert himself as a leader and really take control of the team.

Rondo is responding well after nearly being traded this off-season, a good sign from a notoriously emotional player. The Celtics will need Rondo to be the player he is capable of being (a la Sunday) in the years to come if they are going to have success in the post-big 3 era. If Rondo keeps throwing up triple doubles against number one teams, Celtics fans will be more than happy to have him as the foundation of the franchise.

Pierce Passes Larry Legend

WEEI – The moment was finally here, and the folks who run the Garden in-game operations rose to the occasion. There was a video, of course, honoring Paul Pierce as he passed Larry Bird for second place on the Celtics’ all-time scoring list. There was a long, lusty ovation from the crowd that has watched Pierce grow up from a talented and temperamental individual to the steady and reliable rock of the franchise.

Good for PP34. Pierce grinded it out through some tough years here  in Boston until Danny Ainge finally surrounded him with the supporting cast he needed to bring home a Championship. The Truth has cemented himself as a Boston sports legend, rising past the legendary Larry Bird on the C’s all time scoring list.

Celtics Show They’re No Joke

The Celtics have now won 6 of their last 7 after smashing the Toronto Raptors at the TD Garden on Wednesday night. The Celts are above .500 for the 2nd time this season anf finally look like they are adjusting to the new look of the roster. Brandon Bass chipped in 12 points and is looking like he could be the key contributor Boston needs to support the efforts of the Big 3 down the stretch.

Truth, E’Twaun Lead Celtics To Heroic Comeback

The Boston Celtics overcame a 27 point deficit to defeat the Orlando Magic 91-83 on Thursday night thanks to 24 points from Paul Pierce (19 in the second act) and 16 points from rookie E’Twaun Moore coming off the bench. Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo were both sidelined with injury, but the Truth came through in the clutch as he’s done so many times over the years. If Pierce can carry the team and Moore can step up his game the Celtics should not be counted out as a serious playoff contender. Despite the slow start, this Celtic team is showing encouraging traits. There aren’t many teams in the NBA that could surge back from 27 down against Dwight Howard and the Magic to win the game by 8 points.

Celtics Get It Together

The Celtics ended their longest losing streak since the Big 3 came to town (5 games) with 96-73 drubbing of the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. Rajon Rondo hurt his wrist in the game, but appears to be relatively OK and is considered day to day. Faithful Celtic fans are rejoicing today after two weeks of doom and gloom talk about how the Celts are too old to accomplish anything this year. While the NBA season is shortened to 66 games, the Celtics should eventually settle in and put together a couple positive runs and win enough games to make the playoffs. Whether or not they will go far is another story, but don’t count out this Boston basketball team just yet. After all, they still have the Big 3 – old or not.

Boston Fun Fact – Do You Know Where Basketball Was Invented?

The first basketball game was played in Springfield, MA in 1891. Dr. James Naismith, a Physical Education Porfessor at the YMCA in Springfield, MA needed to keep his sutdents active on a rainy day – but no suitable indoor sport yet existed. Naismith nailed a Peach basket to the wall and created the game we now know as Basketball.

To honor Naismith’s invention of the game, the Basketball Hall Of Fame is located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Massachusetts’ professional team, the Boston Celtics, is the winningest franchise in NBA history with 17 Championships (as of Jan 2012).

Celtics Lose Again, Fans Anxiously Await Return Of Pierce

The Celtics fell to the Hornets on Wednesday night, dropping to 0-3 on the season. The question now is, are Celtics fans panicking or simply waiting for the return of Paul Pierce? Truth is slotted to come back for Friday’s home opener against Detroit. Pierce should add some much needed scoring and the first two losses were against top teams (Miami, New York). But New Orleans? Didn’t they just lose Chris Paul, their only good player? Some guy named Jarett Jack was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points.  I’m a little concerned by that one. What do you think, Celts fans? Is it time to panic or will Pierce restore order when he returns?
