Beanpot Final Was A Doozy!

NESN – With neither team able to capitalize down the stretch, the game required an extra period, and looked poised for a second overtime. Bill Arnold had other plans.

The sophomore took a feed from junior Steven Whitney, and ripped a wrist shot past BU goaltender Kieran Millan for the game-winner, handing Boston College its third straight Beanpot title.
“I’m in the clouds right now,” Arnold said of his title-clinching goal. “You dream about this as a kid and you never really expect it to happen, so this is unbelievable.”

Great game for hockey fans in Boston last night. The TD Garden was rocking for this uniquely Bostonian event that fits into the gap between football and baseball season. Awesome game played by both teams. Felt bad for Millan who stopped what seemed like 100 shots in OT only to allow the Game winner with 7 seconds left. Who knows, maybe these two teams will meet again in the frozen four!

Brady-Youkilis Boston Sports Super Clan

Boston Herald - This is supposed to be hush-hush and on the deep down-low, but you know us. It’s time to pop the bubbly because Kevin Youkilis and Tom Brady’s sis, Julie, are engaged!

How cool is that? Pats and Sox super family. Can they get married on the Boston Common so that all Boston sports fans can attend / launch a parade afterwards? Someone call Menino. Cue the duckboats. This is an occasion to celebrate!

Bruins, Celtics & Sox To Save The Day

The B’s topped the Capitals 4-1 and the Celtics beat the Grizzlies 98-80 on Super Bowl Sunday, giving Bostonians a little something to cheer about on this dreadful day after. We are lucky to live in a place where we can lose the Super Bowl and immediately look to our other teams to lift us up.

Plus, pitchers & catchers report in less than two weeks. Despite the rough end to last season, the Red Sox are still a stacked team that is one hundred percent in the hunt for the World Series. So, keep your chin up Beantown, we’ve got plenty to cheer for.

Fun Fact: Charles Goodyear First Vulcanized Rubber In Woburn, MA

Woburn, MA 1839

Inventor Charles Goodyear sets out to solve a problem: create rubber that will not melt in high temperatures. Goodyear figures out that if he heats the mixture of rubber & sulfur with steam under pressure at the proper heat for just the right amount of time, it will create a stable, melt-proof rubber compound. He names the process “Vulcanization” after Vulcan, the Roman God of fire.

Unfortunately, Goodyear was swindled by British Businessmen and died a poor man. However, his U.S. patent allowed his family to later make a fortune and his name was adopted by several major rubber companies including The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

Woburn, Massachusetts continues to be a cradle of innovation. In 2004, a little Clam with a dream founded a company dedicated to sending Wicked Pissah Stuff to Boston fans everywhere. Charlie Chowdahead and the team at Chowdaheadz.com still ship their Boston themed T-Shirts & novelty items from Woburn today!

Boston Fun Fact – Do You Know Where Basketball Was Invented?

The first basketball game was played in Springfield, MA in 1891. Dr. James Naismith, a Physical Education Porfessor at the YMCA in Springfield, MA needed to keep his sutdents active on a rainy day – but no suitable indoor sport yet existed. Naismith nailed a Peach basket to the wall and created the game we now know as Basketball.

To honor Naismith’s invention of the game, the Basketball Hall Of Fame is located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Massachusetts’ professional team, the Boston Celtics, is the winningest franchise in NBA history with 17 Championships (as of Jan 2012).
