Thanks to the popularity of the children’s book and the 2004 animated film, the Polar Express™ has become a part of the Christmas tradition for millions of families. Massachusetts offers several North Pole themed train rides, but only one is an official Polar Express train ride.
From November 18 to December 23 the Cape Cod Central Railroad in Buzzards Bay becomes the Polar Express, delivering thousands of pajama-clad children to the North Pole in style. So what sets the Polar Express experience apart from all other Christmas train rides?
The festively decorated vintage train cars call to mind the beautiful locomotive from the book and film.
The dancing chefs deliver hot chocolate and cookies to each guest as the score from the movie plays.
Passengers in First Class and Diamond Class receive their cocoa in one-of-a-kind Polar Express mugs to keep as souvenirs.
A fully decked out conductor makes his way from seat to seat punching the children’s keepsake golden tickets. It’s not Tom Hanks, but still pretty cool!
The voice of Liam Neeson radiates through the speakers, reading the iconic book as you are en route to the North Pole.
Books are available for purchase before the ride so children can read along and your Chef turns the pages along with the reading to show off the beautiful illustrations.
After a cozy, fun-filled 30 minute ride, the train arrives in the North Pole where it is greeted by Santa and his elves.
On the return trip back home, Santa will ride with you and visit with each child personally.
They will each receive the customary gift of a bell cut from Santa’s sleigh – and if they believe, they will hear it ring.
The rest of the ride is serenaded by the sweet sounds of children singing Christmas carols led by the Conductor and Chef.
Cape Cod Central Railroad’s magical trip to the North Pole is a one-of-a-kind experience for kids of any age and a fabulous way to build long-lasting holiday memories with the whole family!
