We’ll Always Have 2004…

The Red Sox may have had an awful season this year but that doesn’t mean we should write them completely off.  We’re Chowdaheadz, we know to take the good with the bad… Instead of dwelling on their most recent season, let’s think about this time ten years ago…

The year was 2004, the Sox/Yankees rivalry was at an all-time high and the Red Sox had not won a World Series in 86 years.  This meant that if they were going to win the World Series, they weren’t going to do it quietly or in a normal way…

After losing the first three games of the ALCS, they needed a miracle.  And a miracle they got; in the form of an outfielder named Dave Roberts.  He had not played in ten days but he came in to pinch run and after three attempts to knock him off first base, he succeeded in stealing 2nd base and ultimately scoring to tie the game which then led to a 12 innings victory!  This momentum propelled the Sox to go on and win eight games straight.  Had he not stolen that base, it’s almost certain that their 2004 season would’ve ended that night.

Two days and two games later, the drama continued with one infamous (Red) bloody sock.  (You can’t make this stuff up!)  Curt Schilling was pitching with an ankle injury that led to his a visibly bloody sock.  He powered through his injury to win that game!  He cared so little about the sock that he initially threw it away at Yankee Stadium.  (It later sold at auction for $92,000)

The Red Sox went on to the World Series and swept the St. Louis Cardinals in a much less dramatic fashion. To us Chowdaheadz, the Sox/Yankees series was our World Series and if you were lucky enough to watch it, you’ll probably never forget it!  Don’t feel bad about this past season because we’ve been there before and will most likely be there again.  Instead, remember how awesome it felt in 2004 to be part of the greatest comeback in MLB history, the looks on the Yankee fans faces and how awesome it felt to WIN…

FOR THE 1st TIME IN 86 YEARS!
