Rusney Castillo made his MLB debut Wednesday night in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. The 27 year old Cuban native signed a seven-year $72.5 million contract with the Red Sox last month. This huge investment came as a shock to a lot of Red Sox Nation so there were certainly a lot of eyes on his performance.
Castillo was recruited from Cuba; which doesn’t always prepare players to move past triple A. He has since been getting acclimated in the States to get used to those 90+ mph fast balls. He worked with coaches in Gulf Coast, Double A and Triple A to prepare for last night’s game. Wearing the #38, the same he wore in Cuba, Castillo had a so-so start going 1 for 4.

The Sox ultimately fell to the Pirates 9-1 but unfortunately that’s not too out of the ordinary for them these days… Hopefully Red Sox Nation gets a return on our investment; he has some big (Ellsbury) shoes to fill!
What do you think of the newest Red Sox player?
