Yesterday, The Massachusetts State Senate passed a bill 38-1 to authorize a study to have the 2024 Olympics in the Greater Boston area. The study will look at all aspects of the impact on our city, including economic and infrastructure. The bill was proposed by Eileen Donoghue of Lowell who believes it will create jobs and revitalize our Commonwealth. She also believes it will “show the world how proud we are.” after the recent Marathon events.
Boston has always been an international hub and it seems like a great place to host this world event. We’d most likely need to build some new places to have events but the amount of college arenas and dormitories would be very advantageous. The only major concern I’d have with hosting them would be traffic; Storrow Drive can’t even handle a Friday night game at Fenway.
Overall, the Olympics would bring a lot of tourism and new infrastructure to the city. London essentially got a whole new Subway (or Tube) system as a result of the 2012 games. The application and decision are still a ways away but the ball is officially rolling…
What do you think of Boston hosting the Olympic games in 2024?
