On January 19 the 2012-2013 NHL season will faceoff finally. (I guess it’s really the 2013 season.) The Boston Bruins will play the NY Rangers at the TD Garden. Bruins’ fans will finally get a chance to see their team on the ice once again and it will be against a very tough Rangers team.
It was this summer that the Rangers managed to pull off a huge deal wherein they got the magnificent power forward Rick Nash from the Blue Jackets and sent Brandon Dubinsky and a 2013 first-round pick amongst others to Columbus. Nash joins an impressive team that includes captain Ryan Callahan, goalie Henrik Lundqvist, and defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal. That lineup should make this Bruins home opener very special.
Owners Approve CBA
With the approval of the new CBA by NHL owners the season has become a reality. It will be about half as long as a full season with each team playing close to 50 games. Schedules have not yet been completed, as the entire season has to be reworked. However, the Bruins could be at home for a few games as the Garden is open until January 24th. That’s when the Celtics return from a road trip.
The agreement between the players and owners was reached this past Sunday, which was he 113th day of the lockout. Talks between the two sides were often nonexistent as the lockout dragged on.
NHL Commissioner Speaks
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman spent some time apologizing for the lockout.
He said, “‘Most importantly to our fans, who love and have missed NHL hockey, I am sorry. I know that an explanation or an apology will not erase the hard feelings that have built up over the past few months, but I owe you an apology nevertheless.”
Hockey in Boston
It will be great to have the NHL back in Boston. The long-anticipated season will be too short, but I am glad that it is happening. Hoping for the best and with the Pats season soon to end, it will be good to have another team to cheer for. Along with the start of the season, it was announced that Bobby Orr, one of the greatest players ever, will have his autobiography published in October. What a great week for Boston Bruins fans!
