It’s often referred to as, “New England’s State Fair,” and the Eastern States Exposition or “Big E” is as close as some native New Englanders will ever get to the enormous state gatherings that define agriculture and community in more rural states. All of the six New England states are represented with replicas of their state houses and their own celebratory days on the “Avenue of States” and there is also a wide range of regional food choices, including the signature treat, “The Big E Cream Puff.” In addition to agricultural displays and vendors there are carnival rides and other entertainment options spread out across the enormous West Springfield site. Gates open at 8AM and tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children, but act fast. The yearly 17-day event comes to a close for 2012 on September 30th.
