Go Apple Picking!

If, as the timeless motto suggests, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then there is no better time than the autumn for New Englanders to embrace it.  There are countless orchards within an easy drive of the city and in addition to all of the apple recipes you can happily indulge with your freshly picked produce, you also get to take in the kind of leaf-peeping scenery that draws tourists from all over the world.  Long-time apple pickers will hip you to a few tips, among them being that the best picks are usually gone by October and that the choicest selections are had on weekdays (after the trees have some time to recover from the heavy traffic and grabby hands of trampling families).
