Go to the beach without crossing the Bourne Bridge: Horseneck

The beaches of Cape Cod are known around the world for their beauty and serenity.  Known more locally is the traffic nightmare that getting to the Cape from the Hub can be.  If you’re looking to sink your toes in the sand without the headache of Route 6 gridlock, think Westport.  The Horseneck Beach State Reservation is a gem, nearly 600 acres of barrier beach as well as camping facilities, and the warm waters of Buzzard’s Bay.  The 2-mile long beach also includes a pristine estuary habitat that makes Horseneck one of the premier birding locations in New England.  After a day in the surf you’ll find the Back Eddy in Westport the perfect spot to recount your day.  They pride themselves on fresh produce from the many farms of Southeastern Massachusetts and neighboring Rhode Island as well as a wide variety of fish brought to shore by New England’s fishermen.  Toss in the wine, beer, and cheese from local artisan producers and an influence of Portuguese cuisine in an American style, not to mention spectacular sunset views, and you’ll be glowing in more than just that sweet kiss of the sun.
