The anticipation in advance of the Lone Star Taco Bar, adjacent to the well established Allston watering hole, Deep Ellum, had local foodies and cocktail enthusiasts’ mouths watering and it has met all expectations.
A wait for a seat is a testament to both the quality of the cuisine and the coziness of the location. Tacos, all priced at $4, run the gamut from Carnitas to Baja Fish with the Dallas Spicy Beef a particular favorite. The grilled street corn appetizer is a particularly scrumptious treat, dripping with Cotija cheese and seasoned by just a touch of cilantro and chili lime aioli and the pickled jalapenos can range (based on the batch) from a high octane dose of heat to a full blown flameout (you’ve been warned). Tequila lovers will feel as though they have found an oasis north of the border with a wide range of unique offerings at reasonably varied prices. Reservations are not accepted so smart diners will either arrive early (with their patience in hand) or visit on off hours as food is served until midnight every night.
