Here in New England we spend a fair amount of the year waiting for the elusive sunny day. Now that summer has arrived there are very few nicer spots to spend a gorgeous day than on the 12 miles of interconnecting trails that traverse the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. This Massachusetts Audubon location in Topsfield is a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 100 birds on the Sanctuary’s downloadable checklist, and birding trips and programs available to help the human visitors identify and enjoy the feathered residents. The wetlands are home to turtles and frogs as well as beavers and otters, and the wooden planked walkways allow for easy exploration. On Sunday afternoons there are guided tours beginning in front of the Nature Center at 1:00 PM led by Docents, qualified volunteers eager to help make your experience even more enjoyable. Remember the sunscreen, the bug spray and that nature rewards silence.
