Boston Fun Fact of the Week

The first subway system in the United States was built in Boston in 1897.

Lovingly known as “The T” due to the circular logo it adopted in the 1960s, Boston’s underground railway is controlled by an organization known as the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority or MBTA (website). The MBTA governs all major forms of public transportation in the Boston area, so when Bostonians refer to “The T” they could mean any number of things, but the name is most commonly used to describe the subway train system.
