The Bruins lost their second strait game (sounds weird, right?) losing 2-0 to the Florida Panthers at the TD Garden on Thursday night. Jose Theodore shutout the B’s with 40 saves in a stellar performance. Tim Thomas also played very well, not allowing a goal until the end of the 3rd when Thomas Kopecky put the Panthers up 1-0 with 2:32 to go. Florida added an empty netter to seal the game and the B’s walked away without a point for only the second time in over five weeks.
On a positive note, Tyler Seguin breakfast-gate seems to be over. Seguin returned to the lineup on Thursday night after being benched on Tuesday after he missed a team breakfast and meeting. On Thursday morning, Veteran Shawn Thornton appeared on the Toucher and Rich show on 98.5 The Sports Hub and put to rest speculation about Seguin’s whereabouts on Tuesday morning. Thornton laughed off the notion that Seguin may not have returned to the Hotel on the night between back-to-back games, saying “Nobody’s that stupid.” Thornton also noted that the rumors about Seguin carousing the Winnipeg nightlife were ridiculous, explaining that they got in around 3 a.m. after drinking establishments in the small Canadian city were already closed. The Vet enforcer also said that he did the same thing as a young player, but the media microscope was nothing like it is today. Thornton did a good job defending his teammate, and his logical explanation is pretty compelling. Looks like Seguin is just a young player that makes mistakes… NOT a prima donna with an attitude problem. It’s unfortunate that the B’s leading scorer had to be benched for his behavior, but as long as Seguin has his head in the game going forward, the Bruins should be just fine.
