Dustin Pedroia is not happy about the way Terry Francona is being portrayed in the media following his departure from Boston. Pedy said the scapegoating of Francona is:
“not fair and it hurts”.
Pedroia also deflected alll blame for the September collapse onto the Sox players:
“We didn’t play well in the end. That doesn’t have anything to do with Tito or Theo or any players or what went on in the clubhouse. The leadership was there. We had guys that cared. We just didn’t play well in the end. That’s it.” -via ESPN Boston
Whether or not off-field issues contributed to the Red Sox failure will forever be debated. But you have to respect Pedroia for staying classy during this mess, unlike most of the parties involved. Muddy Chicken never comes up with excuses, he just plays his heart out every day. The fact that Pedroia is still on this team gives Red Sox Nation hope for the future. If Pedroia steps up and becomes the guiding voice on this team, Boston fans can be confident that issues in the clubhouse will not be a hot topic again anytime soon.
