The Red Sox will interview Pete Mackanin, the Bench Coach of the Philadelphia Phillies, as a potential replacement for Terry Francona as Manager. Mackanin and the Phillies are wrapped up in the Post-Season so this process will not start until they finish for the year.
Boston is rumored to be targeting several Bench Coaches from Playoff ballclubs, including Tony Pena of the Yankees and Dave Martinez of the Rays. The most likely move for the Sox promote is to promote a guy who’s had success with a premier MLB franchise and is ready to move up to Manager.
We probably won’t see the Red Sox make a move anytime soon. After the World Series is over, however, I expect the Sox to move swiftly. Hiring a new Manager is the top priority for Theo Epstein (should he remain), John Henry and the rest of Red Sox ownership.
