It seemed like a long shot to begin with, but any hope of the Red Sox picking up a 3rd Premier Starter on the waiver wire has died. There was speculation that if the Angels decided they could not afford to extend Jered Weaver they would release him and the Red Sox could scoop him up. But the Angels have agreed to a 5 year extension with Weaver. The Sox will probably have to stick with what they’ve got, as there are no more big names that look to be waived. But don’t panic. Erik Bedard, who pitches tonight in Texas, had a strong outing last week againt the Rays going 6 innings allowing only 1 Earned Run.
Bedard seems to be getting healthier and more comfortable in Boston every day since his move from Seattle at the deadline. If we see another solid start from Bedard tonight, he could pull ahead of John Lackey in the race fore that crucial 3rd rotation spot heading into the Post-Season.
