Pats Grab Haynesworth in Moss Type Move
Will the Hoodie ever stop? Silly question. But still, after all these years, he still manages to surprise us. The Patriots have agreed to a deal that sends Albert Haynesworth to New England in exchange for a 5th round pick.
Haynesworth was one of the best players in the NFL while playing for the Tennessee Titans, but was a complete bust in Washington over the past 2 seasons after signing his $100 million contract.
The Pats have ripped off poorly-run teams before, like when they snagged Randy Moss from Oakland for a 4th rounder.
Since then, the Wahsington Redskins may have leapfrogged Oakland for worst-run team in the NFL.. They probably have the worst owner in the league. Which leads me to believe that Bill Belichick is yet again crushing the competition with his superior intellect.
I am listening to his Press conference right now, and he is deflecting questions about Haynesworth like a Jedi Knight with a Lightsaber (nerds below explain)
After 3 Superbowl Rings and arguably the best decade ever for an NFL franchise, I’d say the hoodie has earned our trust. Recall that when Bill took a gamble on the disgruntled Randy Moss, he came in and broke the single-season TD record en route to a perfect Regular Season.
Some football players are very hot-headed individuals, which makes sense when your job is to physically annilhate the man inf front of you all day. So when placed in a sloppy, awfully managed organization like the Redskins, they can’t function. However if you bring a guy like Haynesworth to the Patriots, the team leadership and coaching may be able to put him on the right rack. Our D-line now appears to be: Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth. Whoa.
Keep the faith, New England…because if this move works, it could be BIG. Randy Moss big.

Bruins Get to Work on Marchand Deal
The Little Lion Man of the Bruins will be back in Black and Gold.
“They know I want to be back here, and they want me back, so we’ll get something done” the 23-year-old Marchand said. Most famous for his scrappy play, Marchand was also a potent scorer, netting 11 goals during the post-season. The overall influence of his attitude seemed to boost the B’s during their Stanley Cup run, especially when he was able to shut down the Canucks’ Superstars.
When asked why he pummeled Daniel Sedin’s face during this play, Marchand coyly replied “Cause I felt like it.”

Brad Marchand is also famous for his wild partying following the Stanley Cup victory. While the whole team made noise with their $150,000 bar tab at Foxwoods, Marchand made headlines by staying active in Boston nightlife. All of these attributes have quickly made him a fan favorite. Right now he is a free agent, but look for Marchand to come back for a 2-year deal at about $3 million per season.
Normally he would get a longer deal, but the NHL CBA expires in 2012. At the very least, it seems Marchand will be back back in Boston next season.

Logan Mankins On Board, Tully Banta-Cain Walks The Plank
Logan Mankins is going to sign his franchise tender, making him a Patriot..at least for the upcoming season. Mankins will report to training camp on time tomorrow, and the Pats have until September 20 to ink a long term deal with the star O-Lineman. More details here
Meanwhile, linebacker Tully Banta-Cain has been cut from the team. It will be made official on Friday. Bant-Cain recently had abdominal surgery, raising questions about his off-season preparation and his ability to perform this season.
Training camp kicks off tomorrow, officially beginning the 2011 NFL Season.

Mark Herzlich Signs NFL Deal
Congrats to former Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich for reaching the NFL! Since he was not selected in the draft, he had to wait for the NFL lockout to be over before he could sign with a team.
Many Chowdaheadz will be bummed to learn that he is playing for the despised New York Giants, but the real thing to remember here is that a beloved son of Boston is becoming a professional football player. Herzlich, who battled cancer while at BC, was not sure if he could ever play football again. Now he is an NFL player. Many of us hoped he would play for the Patriot, but as an un-drafted free agent Herzlich must do what is best for him and sign where he is most needed. So root against the Giants during the final Pre-Season game September 1st at Gillette Stadium…but make sure you cheer for Mark Herzlich.

Lockout Lifted: The NFL is Back!
The new Collective Bargaining Agreement has been ratified by the players, so now begins the free-agency frenzy. Tomorrow, teams can start signing free agents and begin trade talks.
Training camp begins Wednesday for some teams, with the rest starting up later this week.
