Celtics nipped by Grizzlies

The Boston Celtics had a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference with the Chicago Bulls with a win on Wednesday night but the C’s suffered a 90-87 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at the TD Garden.

The Grizzlies, without second-leading scorer Rudy Gay, outlasted Paul Pierce and the C’s as a last second 3-pointer from Paul Pierce, after two missed free throws with 4.6 seconds left by Grizzlies center Marc Gasol, went wayward as the Celtics lost by three points.

Pierce scored 22 points as Rajon Rondo continued his recent solid play with six points, seven steals, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.  Boston has lost five out of their last nine games.

Luckily for the C’s, help may be on the way as the likes of Shaquille and Jermaine O’Neal are soon to back from the injury bug, in time to help the C’s make a solid push for the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

Boston hosts the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
