Celtics take on the Pistons
The Boston Celtics are enjoying a nice start to the season at 25-4 and one of the main reasons for the Celtics success is Kevin Garnett’s rejuvenation this season. The Celtic forward is posting his best numbers since the 2007-08 season and has finally returned to full health after battling knee injuries the past two years.
On Wednesday night, KG and the Celtics return to Detroit to take on the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. This is the first time the Celtics have faced the Pistons since the Charlie Vilanueva accused Garnett of calling him a “cancer patient” in a 109-86 win in November. The game was marked with trash-talking that made its way off the court and on to the internet at Twitter where Villanueva sounded off on what he thought Garnett said.
Garnett has claimed that he told Villanueva he was “cancerous to [his team] and our league”. Either way, this won’t be any ordinary matchup between the Celtics (25-4) and the Pistons (10-21) as you can be assured to see much more trash talking in Wednesday’s game.
But the Celtics have other things to worry about as Rajon Rondo has missed the last five games with a sprained left ankle and the C’s are struggling to find a solid rotation with injuries to Rondo, Shaquille O’Neal, Jermaine O’Neal, and Delonte West.
Luckily for the C’s, Paul Pierce has been playing some of his best basketball and was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week for his recent efforts. Boston will lean on Pierce, Ray Allen, and Garnett to get through their current road-trip and this stretch of a long season.
Tip off is at 7:30.
