Bruins, Rask hold Panthers scoreless in victory

With Tuuka Rask entering Thursday nights game against the Florida Panthers with a 0-4-1 record, there was reason for concern for Bruins fans who had become accustomed to seeing Tim Thomas between the pipes thus far in the 2010-11 season.

Luckily for Rask and Bruins fans, Milan Lucic scored Boston’s first three goals (one in the first period and two in the third) to register his second career hat trick in route to a Bruins 4-0 shutout victory over the Panthers.

Shawn Thornton also scored for the Bruins, putting the icing on the cake with a late third-period goal.

Rask made his sixth start and didn’t disappoint as the third-year goaltender made 41 saves for his first victory of the season.  It was Rask’s first win since May 5, when the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, before their historic playoff collapse.

Rask helped Boston shut out a Florida squad who had in the last two meetings held the Bruins scoreless.

The Bruins (11-5-1, 23 points) host the Los Angeles Kings (12-5-0, 24 points) on Saturday night at the TD Garden.
