No Shaq. No problem for the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night as the C’s were led by Rajon Rondo’s 17 assists in a 109-86 victory over the Detroit Pistons at the Palace.
Rondo continued his assist-binge, feeding Kevin Garnett (22 points) and Paul Pierce (21 points) as Boston built 20 point lead going into the fourth quarter as Rondo has 67 assists through Boston’s first four games, the most assist through four games in NBA history.
Rondo has 2,211 assists as a Celtic as the emerging star passed Sam Jones (2,209) into 13th place on the team’s career list.
Jermaine O’Neal filled in for his namesake at center on Tuesday and delivered a solid performance with 12 points, two rebounds, and two blocks. Firing on all cylinders, the C’s are 3-1 heading into Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks as Pierce looks to reach the 20,000 point plateau, needing 23 points to reach the milestone.
