After a disappointing loss Saturday night, the Celtics will look to steal Game 2 from the Cavaliers tonight in Cleveland to even the series at one.
Game 1 was the the tail of two halves for the Celtics. The Celtics went into halftime up 11 over the Cavaliers, but it was the third quarter defensive breakdown by the C’s that gave Cleveland the lead. Lebron James, who scored 18 of his 32 points in the second half, and his Cavs never looked back after the third quarter, as they went on to defeat the Celtics, 101-93.
Not only did the Celtics struggle defensively in the second half, but the Big Three went cold offensively. Paul Pierce (39 minutes), Ray Allen (44 minutes), and Kevin Garnett (38 minutes) combined for just two points in the final 12 minutes of the game.
Tonight the Celtics will have the chance to redeem themselves against Lebron and the Cavaliers in Game 2 of Eastern Conference Semifinals. Most believe the 2009-2010 Boston Celtics do not have what it takes to defeat the Cavaliers this year, but the series isn’t over yet. The Celtics did show signs of greatness in Game 1, but fatigue was definitely a factor down the stretch. Keeping the minutes down of the Big Three in the first half, will be key for the Celtics as they look ahead.
It’s not time to throw in the towel yet. The series is still young and in the NBA, anything can happen.
Tip off is at 8:00PM.
