Boston Red Sox Roundup

After receiving a cortisone shot in his bad back on Monday, Tim Wakefield could be healthy enough to throw off a bullpen mound on Thursday and depending on how that goes, could be in the rotation sometime next week.

Brad Penny pitched eight innings of five hit ball and allowed zero runs in his debut with the San Fransisco Giants on Wednesday.  Penny would still be in a Sox uniform if he threw the ball like he did against the Phildelphia Phillies.  It was the first time, all season, that Penny went into the eighth inning, let alone finish it.  John Smoltz and Penny are now 2-0 for their new respective ball clubs since leaving the Red Sox.  Looks like the National League is weaker than the American League after all, imagine if the Sox were in the NL.
