New Dad Will Stay Back in Boston
During an interview on WEEI’s “Dale and Holley” program this morning, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that All-Star second baseman Dustin Pedroia would miss his second straight game after the birth of his first child. Francona was unsure of the reigning MVP’s status for Thursday’s game either.
Pedroia and his wife, Kelli, welcomed their newborn son Dylan into the world yesterday afternoon. As much of a competitor as the brand-new dad may be, I’m sure he wasn’t anxious to get back to Toronto, as his club will be facing perennial Cy Young candidate Roy Halladay (13-5, 2.65) in game two of this three-game set. The Red Sox will oppose Halladay with young right-hander Clay Buchholz (1-3, 4.45).
