Smoltz Released By Red Sox

42-Year-Old’s Time Ends In Boston

The end of John Smoltz’s tenure in Boston has come to a close as the Boston Red Sox released the 42-year-old on Monday.

The right-hander posted a 8.33 ERA with the Sox and won only two of his eight starts with Boston.  Smoltz denied a request from the Red Sox that he go to the minors and work his way back as a reliever.

Smoltz, however, has not denied that he would sign with another team as a reliever.
