Bruins Stayin’ Alive With Win Over Canes

The Boston Bruins brought a halt to their three-game losing streak in their Eastern Conference seminfinals matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes by shutting out the Canes 4-0 at the TD Banknorth Garden.

The Bruins attacked the Hurricanes early and often in Game 5 by putting 40 shots on Cam Ward while the Canes only managed to muster 19 shots against Tim Thomas who recorded his first NHL playoff shutout.

Phil Kessel scored two goals for the B’s as Marc Savard added two assists for the Black and Gold.  Kessel scored his first goal of the series after scoring four in Boston’s first round matchup with the Montreal Canadiens.  Mark Recchi scored Boston’s first goal of the game for his 49th career playoff goal.

Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara set the physical tone early for the Bruins before Chara left the game with a leg injury in the second period.  His return in the third helped spark the Bruins faithful and players, who now face two elimination games in order to make it to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Bruins and Hurricanes hit the ice again in Carolina on Tuesday.
